With redundancies and downsizing on the increase and organizations cutting back on their advertising dollars, it’s easy to think that no opportunities exist any more.

I am going to show you that is simply NOT TRUE.

Even with unemployment at 7.3pc in the euro region, 6.1pc in the US and 4pc in Japan (Aug 2008), there are still many, many millions of people in work and changing jobs every day. We usually think of this as the hidden job market where there are unadvertised jobs.

Within that massive number of people who are employed, people are changing jobs, getting sick, even dying and others moving away or getting promoted! And that means opportunity - if you know what to do!

There are lots of great jobs, not just low-paid service industry jobs but real jobs that you want; you just need to know how to find these hidden jobs and how to work the hidden job market!

Another Headache

"Do I include my salary history? Should I say why I left my last job? How do I send it by e-mail?"

Worst of all, you only get one chance to make a first impression with your resume and cover letter. If you mess up, you're finished.

Meanwhile, that job you really wanted -- the one with the salary, benefits and working conditions you've been daydreaming about -- just went to someone less qualified than you, someone who probably won't do half as well as you would have. All because THEIR resume and cover letter were just a tiny bit better than yours.

What a waste! Do someting about it...

You know the feeling don't you, when you just don't get called forward to interview for those high-paying jobs you really want.

Well I'm sorry to be so blunt but it's most probably because your cover letter is pathetic - in fact, worse than that it's probably just downright useless and harming any last chance you had of getting the job you really deserve.

I should know: as a Headhunter and Career Coach for over 25 years, I've seen some great opportunities ruined by half-assed covering letters. If you can't do better than that you can't expect to snag the job of your dreams.

The Recruitment Consultant or Hiring Manager is too busy to bother with some crappy cover letter that doesn't grab the attention or give the information needed.

It's quite simple, because the cover letter is the first thing they look at and if it isn't interesting and convincing it goes straight in to the trash.

And if your cover letters are as pathetic, that is where they belong!!
